Envision and Gramm bring smog-fighting acoustic barriers to UK motorways and railways

Guelph, Ont., Canada, and Seaford, East Sussex, United Kingdom, February 27, 2018 — Envision SQ (“Envision”) and Gramm Barrier Systems Ltd. (“Gramm”) announced today that they have entered into a licensing agreement to exclusively market and sell Envision’s smog-reducing SmogStop® Barrier in the United Kingdom.

By aligning Envision with the leading supplier and installer of acoustic sound barriers and fencing in Britain, the agreement marks an important step in advancing the company’s mission to create and commercialize innovative pollution-control technologies globally, says Scott Shayko, Envision President and CEO.

“This is an exciting opportunity because Gramm’s reputation and experience will help establish our product in Britain, where the government is actively working towards meeting strict air quality standards,” said Shayko. “It gives us an important foothold to introduce our innovative technologies to the U.K. market.”

The SmogStop™ Barrier uses disruptive new technology to cut pollution while reducing traffic noise along transportation corridors. Made of transparent acrylic with a patented photocatalytic coating that reacts with sunlight, the SmogStop™ Barrier captures smog-producing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in fuel exhaust and reduces them to harmless gases – dramatically cutting ground-level pollution. Its patented aerodynamic design also funnels dirty air upwards where it mixes with cleaner air, diluting pollution and directing it away from nearby neighbourhoods.

Proven to cut pollution from fuel exhaust by over 50 per cent, the SmogStop® Barrier is a solution to a growing problem. The World Health Organization blames air pollution for 3.7 million deaths each year; in the UK, toxic air results in about 40,000 deaths annually. According to The Guardian newspaper, it took less than a month for the City of London to exceed its annual legal limit for air pollution in 2018. In response, the British government has developed a £3.5-billion plan to improve air quality, much of it focused on programs aimed at reducing vehicle emissions along the nation’s motorways and railways.

“The time is perfect for SmogStop™ Barrier,” said Steve Whittle, Gramm’s Managing Director.
“We’re pleased to be working with Envision to help solve one of Britain’s most pressing environmental issues,” said Whittle. “Our company has built thousands of kilometers of acoustic barriers, made from all types of materials, on major road and rail projects throughout Britain. So we’re well-positioned to introduce SmogStop™ Barrier to the U.K. market.”
